Family Learning

It is well known that children progress best when they are helped and encouraged at home.  There have been many changes in education and parents and carers may be unsure about how to support their children.  This service provides courses for parents and carers promoting knowledge and understanding of literacy, numeracy and informal learning.  The service is particularly keen to reach parents who are lacking in confidence and who want to refresh their own skills so that they can help their children.

Qualified teachers, many with additional adult education qualifications, teach the courses which are supported by free childcare.  The classes have an informal, friendly atmosphere.  The service will also arrange a confidential home visit for anyone who lacks confidence to join a group.

The Family Learning Service provides one-to-one support, group support, practical help, advice and information for parents and carers.  It operates an equal opportunities policy and provides training for staff and volunteers.
